2012: The rebirth of TMNT

2012: The rebirth of TMNT

2012 was a great year for TMNT.  Nickelodeon took a chance on the Turtles and it paid off. The advertising department was pushing the Turtles at Comic-Con.

The online media usage was done very well. Fans were able to choose what side they would join.  Panels were held at the convention and the actors were in attendance to promote the new show.

2012 also saw the re-launch of TMNT comics. There has been a lot of up and down with TMNT comics, but as it turned out this version was different in a good way. The TMNT had micro series that gave a more in-depth look at the Turtles. In addition, they worked with the TV show. This allowed for a detailed story arc.

The toys for TMNT are selling fast. The Turtles are done very well for the price …

Kevin Eastman: Creative Genius or Mad Scientist?

Kevin Eastman: Creative Genius or Mad Scientist?

A lot has been said about Kevin Eastman in the past, but it would seem that his name is favorably on the lips of every TMNT fan as of late. Here’s a guy who stopped working with the franchise for several years, only to find himself coming back to it once more in many different ways. In the past few years, Eastman has been brought in to consult on projects like Nickelodeon’s new show and Michael Bay’s film. He’s also been asked to produce covers for new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics from IDW, and has even gone so far as to craft an annual (mostly) on his own. To quote the man himself, “it’s like Michael Corleone, they kept pulling me back in.”

In a recent article on LA Weekly, we find a breakdown of the career …

Fourth live-action TMNT movie was in the works

Fourth live-action TMNT movie was in the works

The last live action TMNT movie left many fans disappointed, but recently it was revealed that the fourth movie was in the works. Heritage Auctions revealed artwork made by TMNT co-creat0r Kevin Eastman. The movie was to be called “TMNT: The Next Mutation.”

A new turtle was to be introduced named Kirby. Eastman had many ideas on how he should look. Kirby was going to wield swords, and many other changes were made to fan favorite characters.  All of the characters themselves looked to be from a post-apocalyptic world.

April O’Neil was labeled as evil in Eastman’s notes and was wearing a revealing outfit. She also carried a sword which would suggest that she was now trained, possibly by Splinter. Kasey was given a unique look. He wields a gun, which is somewhat unfitting since he recently discovered a love …

TMNT | Eastman and Laird – Working Artists

TMNT | Eastman and Laird – Working Artists

With all the nostalgia and fandom that goes along with the Turtles, it’s sometimes too easy to forget that Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird are both still very much active in the arts and comics communities.  For proof, look no further than the personal websites of both co-creators!

Before talking about these sites, let’s be clear:  it would be pretty easy for both Eastman and Laird to sit back on their laurels and retire, but if you ever needed proof that the guys behind TMNT are artists to the core, their websites should put any doubt to rest.  Carl Jung once said, in so many words, that it is the art that makes the artist (as the artist makes the art – wrap your head around that for a while), and the Turtle’s co-creators’ websites make that pretty evident.…

Kevin Eastman to Both Write & Draw TMNT Annual 2012

Kevin Eastman to Both Write & Draw TMNT Annual 2012

When it comes to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Kevin Eastman has never worked alone. He’s always worked in groups with co-creator Peter Laird and many others at IDW. For nearly 30 years, Eastman has had someone to bounce ideas off of, but that’s about to change. This October, for the first time ever, he’ll be attempting his very own work in the TMNT universe. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Annual 2012 will be both written and drawn solely by Eastman, which is quite an undertaking. It might not sound like such a big deal, but ask any artist who has both written and drawn the artwork for their comic, and they will tell you that it is no easy task. Writing a good script can be difficult on its own, but producing the artwork presents its own challenge. Eastman …

For this project, you’ll be asked to use the new Playmates toys to create a stop-motion video with your ending to the story. He Likes it – Reflections on Kevin Eastman’s Endorsement of Bay’s “Ninja Turtles”

He Likes it – Reflections on Kevin Eastman’s Endorsement of Bay’s “Ninja Turtles”

On July 15th, Steven Smith from MTV Geek sat down with Kevin Eastman at Comic-con in San Diego and learned some surprising news: Eastman, co-creator of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, is actually excited for Bay’s reimagining of the fearsome foursome’s origins.

He describes the upcoming film as “…the best Turtle movie yet,” and praises the anticipated “Raid: Redemption style fight scenes,” and “Rise of the Planet of the Apes…sort of effects,” which paints a pretty clear picture of this upcoming film as a more straight-up action movie than previous cinematic offerings.

Eastman also notes that much-discussed pushback date (from 2013 to 2014) was essentially a marketing decision by Paramount studios, since 2014 marks the 30th anniversary of the TMNT franchise, and has nothing to do with fan feedback regarding the (again, much discussed) changes to the …

First Look at Nickelodeon’s TMNT Intro Theme

First Look at Nickelodeon’s TMNT Intro Theme

It’s that time of year again, with geeks everywhere filing out to Comic-Con once more. What’s more, with Nickelodeon’s new TMNT series on the horizon, you had to expect that they’d have a few things to reveal at one of the biggest and most beloved conventions in the world. Well, they already let the cat out of the bag a little early with the first official trailer for the show, but there was still a lot left unanswered after that. Thankfully, some of those questions have been answered with their latest release of the official theme song for the show (TMNT Intro theme below) . Until now, we’ve only heard short clips of this song, and it hasn’t really impressed. However, the full theme is actually quite interesting, although fans still seem to be quite divided about it.

Yes, it’s …

Turtle Power – New Documentary On the Horizon

Turtle Power – New Documentary On the Horizon

While the fate of one TMNT film hangs in the balance, the fate of another has only just begun. Of course, this isn’t any kind of live action affair, this is a documentary about the origins of the turtles. No, not exactly the origins that we’ve all been talking about as of late, but rather just exactly how they came into being and how they became so popular. Turtle Power tells the tale of two independent comic artists who came up with an idea that shook the world. I’m sure most fans know quite a bit of the story, but some might be amazed at what they will discover. In the film, creators Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird will be talking about their experiences with the turtles and sharing video footage from the early days. In addition, the documentary will …

First Official Full Length Trailer for Nickelodeon’s New TMNT Reboot

First Official Full Length Trailer for Nickelodeon’s New TMNT Reboot

It’s been over a year since the first meaningful details about Nickelodeon’s new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot were released, and still we were waiting for some kind of trailer or something to give us a hint about what the show would be like. We knew through interviews with Kevin Eastman and the series creators that it would be anime inspired and entirely CG, which immediately concerned some fans. It was also revealed that the show would feature an awesome cast of vocal talents such as Sean Astin, Jason Biggs and Phil LaMarr. Heck, they even created and revealed the first line of toys that were designed and based on the show, and some of those toys even made it to the aftermarket of eBay well before the show had even aired, let alone before Nickelodeon had revealed much of …
